Ceramic Coating in Buckhead

Buckhead cars live in two places: high-rise parking decks along Peachtree Road, and garages under heavy canopy in the residential streets. A coating does a different job in each.

Buckhead

Deck cars and canopy cars

Along Peachtree Road, from Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza down toward Buckhead Village, many owners live in high-rise buildings and park in shared decks. Those cars are shaded, but they rarely get washed at home. They go through a car wash instead, and an automatic wash is the most reliable way to swirl paint. A coating helps by letting the car be rinsed clean with less scrubbing, and it makes a hand wash quicker than a tunnel.

The residential side is the opposite. Around Tuxedo Park and West Paces Ferry Road the lots are large and the trees are old, and cars parked in the driveway take sap, pollen and droppings on the horizontal panels. There the coating's job is chemical resistance, and the 5-year coating is usually the right one.

Which of the two a car is, and how it is washed, is the first thing we ask about at inspection. It decides the coating more than the make or model does.

What we recommend

Washing in the city

The hardest part of keeping a Buckhead car clean is finding somewhere to wash it. Many condo buildings do not allow washing in the deck, which is why so many cars go through tunnel washes and come out swirled.

A coated car changes that. Dirt releases with a rinse and a gentle wash, so a careful rinseless wash in the deck, with clean microfibers, becomes realistic between proper washes. If the car must go through an automatic wash, choose touchless over brushes, and accept that strong detergents shorten a coating's life.

On the residential side the advice is about timing. Wash in the evening or early morning, never on a hot panel in the afternoon sun, because water that dries on hot paint leaves mineral spots, coated or not.

Getting here

Getting a Buckhead car to the studio

The studio is up the same road. Peachtree Road runs north out of Buckhead and becomes Peachtree Industrial, which passes the studio in Peachtree Corners. It takes 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic, or a little quicker on 400 and 285 outside rush hour.

A coating needs indoor cure time, so this is a drop-off rather than a wait. Deck residents should tell us about clearance heights if they would like the car collected, because an enclosed transporter needs more headroom than a car does.

Questions

Buckhead questions

Usually, yes. Deck cars avoid sun and canopy but are often washed in automatic car washes, which swirl paint. A coated car rinses clean far more easily, so it can be hand-washed quickly instead.

30 to 45 minutes up Peachtree Road and Peachtree Industrial, depending on traffic. Outside rush hour, 400 and 285 can be quicker.

Ask when you book, and tell us the deck clearance height. An enclosed transporter needs more headroom than a car, so a street-level handover is often easier to arrange in advance.

Ask about your car directly.
