Where a Porsche needs film

Porsche paint is not unusually soft. Porsche shapes simply put it where the road can reach it. A 911's rear fenders flare out wider than the front of the car, so the front tires throw grit and road debris straight at them, and that is where 911 owners find chips they cannot explain.

The Front Clip covers the panels every car shares: bumper, hood, front fenders, mirrors and headlights. On a Porsche the real question is what to add behind them, and the answer depends on the model and how it is driven.

Many Porsches are also ordered in special colors, including Paint to Sample, which are expensive to match and slow to repaint well. Protecting original paint costs less than refinishing it, and keeps the car's history simple when it is sold.

By model

Coverage by Porsche model

  • 911

The wide rear haunches sit in the spray from the front tires, and the lower edges of the doors take it on the way back. Track Pack, which adds rocker panels, door edges and rear impact areas to the Front Clip, is the coverage we recommend for a 911 that sees the highway.

  • GT3, GT3 RS and GT4 RS

Low noses, splitters and aero, and track days that throw rubber and gravel at the whole car. Track Pack at minimum. Full Body is the sensible choice for a GT car that is tracked or kept for the long term.

  • Cayman and Boxster

A short nose and side intakes ahead of the rear wheels, with the rockers close to the road. Track Pack covers the rockers and rear impact areas; we show you at inspection exactly which panels around the intakes it reaches on your car.

  • Taycan

A long, low hood and wide rear haunches, like the 911's. Front Clip for a car that mostly stays local; Track Pack if it does a daily highway commute.

  • Macan and Cayenne

Upright fronts that meet chips at highway height. Front Clip suits most. Rocker panels on these sit low and catch spray, so Track Pack is worth it on a car that covers a lot of miles.

Track Pack, for most owners. The 911's rear fenders are wider than the front of the car and sit directly in the spray from the front tires, which the Front Clip does not cover. A 911 that rarely leaves town can start with the Front Clip.

Yes. Gloss film keeps the color and finish exactly as they are. Satin film changes the sheen to matte, so on a special color most owners choose gloss. Film is particularly worth it here, because matching a special color in a body shop is slow and costly.

Often, yes: film takes the impacts and a coating over paint and film makes the whole car easier to wash. See ceramic coating or new car protection for both in one visit.
